I wish life was unchanging and steady. But, as long as we live here in this world, I know that will not happen. These last couple of weeks have been a roller-coaster of emotions for my family and me. On September 16, my wife’s sweet grandmother passed away. Grandma lived a long, beautiful life. She was 92 ½ years old. Even though we knew her time to rest was quickly approaching, it was more difficult than we expected. Grandma was a Christian and she was funny. She always said what she thought – and sometimes got in trouble for blurting things out! Grandma was always thinking of other people. There wasn’t a time when brownies weren’t waiting for us when we came to visit her. They were the best brownies I had – except for the time she switched the sugar and the salt! Last Saturday was the first concert I sang in since she left us. Grandma loved music and the Heritage Singers, and I thought about this throughout the concert. I was holding it together pretty well until the last song – These Are They. As I was singing this song, I really understood the deep message of the words. I could picture in my mind the “graves opening wide to set the captives free”. I could see Grandma, without her walker, rising to meet her sweet Jesus, and meeting us in the air. Even though I know there is suffering and pain in this world, we can rest assured that if we learn to walk with Christ, we will see that resurrection morning. We will be “redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.” And, when I visit Grandma in her mansion, she’ll have brownies waiting for me! Won’t you join me there? |
