Last July marked the 10th
anniversary of my arrival to the United States.
More has happened to me in the past 10
years than in the first 22 years of my life.
In my home country of Chile,
Thanksgiving is not a holiday – due to the lack of pilgrims!
But, upon my arrival in the United
States, Thanksgiving was the first holiday that I was able to
celebrate with my North American friends.
My first Thanksgiving was a huge eating fest
without much meaning – just lots of food.
Over the next several years, I learned the true
meaning of the holiday.
Thanksgiving is a time to thank God for the
wonderful things in our lives.
Over the past 10 years, God has given me many
blessings:
a beautiful loving wife; two precious
and healthy daughters; my wife’s family that I love to be around; a
job where I can freely talk to students about God; and an extended
Heritage family that loves and cares for me.
I don’t deserve any of these things, but God
has blessed me with them.
Recently I traveled to Chile to be with
my dad while he was hospitalized in critical condition.
I didn’t know what state he would be in when I
arrived.
Many people were praying for my father,
and when I arrived I knew immediately that prayer works.
My dad was and is doing better.
I have learned to be thankful not only in the
good times, but also in the difficult times.
As I sit here at my computer writing this
message, I’m listening to the sound of my sleeping daughters and
thanking God for His countless blessings.
This Thanksgiving, take some time to look
around you and thank God for what He has done for you – in the good
times and the bad.
Truly believe that “God
will take care of you”!
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
